My Success Story

My New Year’s resolution started in October 2009. I was in need of a drastic change—I had high blood pressure, high cholesterol, insulin-dependent diabetes, and at 6’4” I weighed in at 377 pounds. My transformation began after receiving a gift certificate to Positive LifeForce and I began working with Kelsey Searles. This may have been the best gift anyone could have given me. I began working out one hour per day, six days a week and the changes I experienced were significant (to say the least!).

Now, having worked with Kelsey just over one year, I’ve shed 125 pounds! Not only did I lose a tremendous amount of weight, I also brought my blood pressure and cholesterol back to normal levels and no longer require any medication for diabetes. I realized you have to be willing to make lifestyle changes, and when you do, they really work. I believe everyone can make time to devote one hour per day to physical fitness. My current workout routine consists of three hours per week with my personal trainer and three days I go to the gym and use the treadmill, elliptical, and stationary bike. I’ve also discovered I need to do my workouts in the evening on my way home from work because I know myself—and if I had to get up at 5am to exercise, it wouldn’t happen!

After years of dieting, I finally came to the resolution that simply watching what I eat and adding lots of fruit and vegetables was the best plan for me—NO strict diets. Instead of eating three large meals each day, Kelsey suggested I eat five to six smaller meals every day. I tell everybody that through exercising and simply watching what I eat I have more energy, I sleep better, and I don’t have to shoot myself with a needle of insulin anymore!

Moreover, I recently turned 40 and became certified as a spinning instructor through Mad Dogg Athletics and teach two a spin class each week at Positive LifeForce. My current goal is to keep shedding pounds and to train for the local half marathon in May 2011. I also plan on becoming a certified personal trainer so I can help others change their lives just as I did! When people tell me they can’t do it, I tell them if I can do it, anybody can do it!
